Youth Art, Photography, and Writing ContestYou do not need to be present at the Awards Dinner to win.
When: All entries must be hand-delivered to Pizza Gallery & Grill at The Avenue Viera, 2250 Town Center Ave., Suite 113, by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015.

What: A youth Art, Photography, and Writing Contest is being sponsored by the Viera Voice in an effort to
raise awareness for what residents of Brevard can do to help protect our wildlife and nature habitat.

Theme for Contest: Brevard Wildlife
Who: The contest is open to US residents who have not completed 12th grade and currently enrolled in public, charter or private school or being home schooled. (Note to parents: If your child cannot write yet, you may type their words for them. Children can hand write their own entry on a single sheet of
​8.5 x 11 paper if they wish.)

Categories: There are three categories for age groups K-2, 3-6, 7-8, and 9-12, with a $50 first place winner in each category and age group, $25 for second place, $10 for third place, and Honorable Mention, for a total of $1,020 in cash prizes. For children with disabilities, a parent or guardian may request contact from the judging committee at 321-242-1235 to assist with category placement.

Categories: There are only three categories for all age groups.

1. Art – two dimensional – paintings and drawings
2. Photography
3. Writing – essay or poetry

Prizes: Top winner from each category will receive the following prizes:

1. $50 cash award.
2. Certificate of Achievement.
3. Publication of their winning achievement in the May 2015 issue of the Viera Voice.

Up to 30 of the top entrants will have their works of art, photography, and/or writing displayed in the foyer of the Holiday Inn Viera Grand Ballroom during the Corbeil Conservation Awards Dinner on April 9, 2015, along with other nature exhibits. The expo hall foyer will be open to the public at no charge from 5:30 to 9 p.m. To purchase tickets to the award banquet, please click here.

How to Enter: 
1. Print, complete, and include a separate entry application with each contest submission (only one entry per entrant is allowed in each category). Click here to find the entry form.
2. The child’s name should not be visible on the front of the photo, artwork or written entry. Name and  phone number should be on the back to identify owner.
3. Essays should be typed or handwritten on one 8.5 x 11 paper and be 250 words maximum in length. Poetry should be typed or handwritten and submitted on single 8.5 x 11 piece of paper.
4. Photographs should be a minimum of 7 inches on the shortest side and a maximum of 12 inches on
the longest side and any size combination of these dimensions are acceptable (i.e.- 7 x12, 8x10, 8x12 or 8x8
are some examples of acceptable sizes.) All photos must be mounted on an 11X14 piece of mat board or  form board on the back and can have a front mat if desired but not required. Photos can be horizontal or vertical orientation. No canvas, metal or other printing methods acceptable. The photographs can be printed on photo paper of your choosing – gloss, matte or satin for example.
5. Art work should be no larger than 11x14 and can be mounted on a 11x14 mat or formcore board if desired, but not required. Paintings can be on stretched canvas.
6. All entries are to be the youth’s ideas and designed without any assistance from adults. Adults can help them prepare artwork for submission such as printing and mounting of artwork or typing child’s entry if they cannot.
7. A trip to the Viera Wetlands is highly recommended for inspiration of the submission, but is not required.

PICK-UP: Please note: All submissions must be picked up in person at the Pizza Gallery & Grill at The Avenue Viera by 5 p.m. Friday, May 9 2014.

Submissions are to be picked up starting at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13 during opening hours of 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Any item not picked up by May 24th will become property of the Viera Voice.

Winning Notification: Winners will be notified at the start of the event by having a notification posted next to the winning submission, which will be placed on display in the event exhibit, or by email and/or telephone by April 13, and posted in the May 2015 issue of Viera Voice.

NOTE: 
Mat and foam board and mats can be purchased at the Viera Walmart and Michael’s. Office supply stores such as Office Depot have form board. Photos can be printed at Viera Walmart, Walgreens, CVS and other places that print photos.
